A Christmas Carol – A class visit to the theatre

Our class – 6A – were really surprised when our English teacher Ms Arcularius told us that we would go to the theatre. We watched the English play „A Christmas Carol“ at Wilhema-Theater in Stuttgart. The story is based on a book which is about a miserly, grumpy, rich old man who is called Ebenezer Scrooge. It was written by Charles Dickens, who lived in England from 1812 to 1870. Our teacher decided to go there because it is a story about Christmas and she said it is good practice for us.

We went there by train and it was a bit hard because there were a lot of people. When we arrived, we first took a picture for memory purposes. After that we went into the theatre, which was still closed but then opened just for us. We were really impressed when we saw how big and nicely decorated it was.

The play took 1 hour and 30 minutes without any break. First Ebenezer Scrooge is a miserly and grumpy man, but at the end, he becomes a friendly and kind person who helps other people. He changes because of the three Ghosts of Christmas, who are called the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and then finally the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. If you want to know the story in detail, you will have to watch one of the many film versions, go to a theatre or read the book.

Our class had a brilliant experience and a great time at the theatre and we really recommend this story. The play was really funny and we also liked the songs and actors because they were really good. Thanks to the “Schulverein” for supporting our trip and special thanks to our English teacher for giving us the chance to go there.
